Job Description

What’s in it for you?

  • High-quality work: Run sophisticated family law matters for high net worth individuals, business owners and families with complex financial structures and sensitive parenting issues.
  • Meaningful court exposure: Take a leading role in contested proceedings, interim and final hearings, urgent applications and strategic litigation.
  • Established specialist team: Work alongside senior family lawyers and Accredited Specialists in a practice focused exclusively on family law.
  • Autonomy and influence: Take ownership of your matters, work directly with clients and counsel, and contribute at a senior level to the continued growth of the Melbourne practice.
  • Culture that matters: Join a firm that takes pride in maintaining a welcoming, down-to-earth and supportive environment while delivering exceptional client work.

About your new employer:

  • A highly regarded specialist family law practice with an established presence across multiple Australian cities.
  • The broader team includes a strong group of Accredited Specialists and has been consistently recognised in leading industry rankings for its family law capability.
  • A resolution-focused practice that aims to resolve disputes sensibly where possible, while maintaining strong litigation capability when court intervention is required.
  • A people-focused culture where lawyers work closely together, have direct client responsibility and are supported by an experienced team.

About the role:

  • Manage a broad family law practice spanning complex property settlements, parenting disputes, divorce, financial agreements and related family law issues.
  • Act on high net worth property matters involving businesses, trusts, investments, superannuation and other significant asset structures.
  • Run contested parenting and property proceedings, including urgent applications, interim hearings and matters progressing through to trial.
  • Appear in court, instruct counsel, attend mediations and conferences, and develop strategy across complex and sensitive disputes.
  • Provide clear, commercial and empathetic advice to clients through significant personal and financial decisions.
  • Mentor more junior lawyers and contribute to the technical strength and collaborative culture of the team.

The ideal candidate:

  • 5–8 years’ post-admission experience in family law, ideally with exposure to complex parenting, property and litigation matters.
  • Accredited Specialist in Family Law, with the technical depth and judgement expected of a senior practitioner.
  • Strong experience across both property and parenting matters, ideally including complex/high-value financial disputes and contested litigation.
  • Confident running matters autonomously, appearing in court and managing relationships with clients, barristers and experts.
  • Commercial, pragmatic and emotionally intelligent, with the judgement to resolve matters where possible and litigate decisively when required.
  • A collaborative senior lawyer who values culture, enjoys mentoring others and wants to play a meaningful role in a growing specialist practice.
