About Powerhouse

Powerhouse Museum is located at the intersection of arts, design, science, and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. It is the custodian of more than half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia. We are undertaking a landmark $1.3 billion infrastructure renewal program, led by the creation of Powerhouse Parramatta; expanded research and public facilities at Powerhouse Castle Hill; the heritage revitalisation of the iconic Powerhouse Ultimo; and the ongoing operation of Sydney Observatory.




ABOUT THE ROLE 

Are you interested in food, learning and working with children and communities? Join the Powerhouse team as a Kitchen Garden Volunteer and support programs in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program at

Powerhouse Parramatta. Working alongside Powerhouse staff, volunteers will support hands-on gardening, and food education programs for schools and community groups. You’ll help prepare activities, welcome participants and be part of programs that connect food, culture, sustainability and learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Welcome and assist children, families and community participants
  • Support hands-on food education, kitchen and gardening programs
  • Assist with preparation, set-upand pack-down
  • Work collaboratively with Powerhouse staff, volunteers and participants

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 

Motivation  

  • Interest in food, cooking, sustainability, learning and community engagement 

Skills 

  • Confidence interacting with children, families and diverse communities 

  • Ability to follow food safety procedures and work safely in a kitchen environment 

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

DETAILS 

  • Location: Powerhouse Parramatta  

  • Commitment: Minimum 1 day per fortnight, hours vary  

  • Training: Induction and job-specific training
