This opportunity sits within a large Federal Government organisation that delivers high-profile programs with national impact. Joining a collaborative finance team, you'll work closely with senior stakeholders to influence funding decisions and contribute to key Commonwealth Budget outcomes.
Your new role
As an APS6/EL1 External Budget Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the agency through major budget milestones, including Budget, Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) and Estimates processes.Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining budget estimates, forecasts and financial models
  • Managing agency reporting through the Central Budget Management System (CBMS)
  • Supporting the preparation of Portfolio Budget Statements and Additional Estimates documentation
  • Assisting with New Policy Proposals, Cabinet costings and funding submissions
  • Preparing briefings, executive reporting and Senate Estimates material
  • Providing strategic budget advice to business areas and senior stakeholders
  • Liaising with central agencies and internal stakeholders on budget matters
  • Analysing financial information to identify risks, trends and funding impacts
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of budgeting and reporting processes

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this APS6 External Budget Officer role, you will demonstrate:

  • Must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline security clearance
  • Experience working within an APS external budget, budgeting or financial management environment
  • Strong understanding of Commonwealth Budget processes and government financial frameworks
  • Experience using CBMS or similar government budgeting systems
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability
  • Excellent written communication and briefing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to build effective stakeholder relationships across a range of business areas
