Indian Ocean – Indian Restaurant in Cowes, Phillip Island is seeking a motivated and experienced full-time Chef to join our kitchen team.

The successful applicant will play an important role in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and will be responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene and efficiency.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning menus and estimating food and labour costs.
  • Ordering food, ingredients and kitchen supplies as required.
  • Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Discussing food preparation and kitchen-related issues with management, kitchen staff and waiting staff.
  • Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising staff on appropriate cooking procedures.
  • Preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of dishes to a high standard.
  • Ensuring meals are prepared consistently and presented appropriately.
  • Explaining and enforcing food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness requirements.
  • Maintaining compliance with applicable food safety and workplace hygiene standards.
  • Assisting with the selection, supervision and training of kitchen staff where required.
  • Freezing, preserving and storing food safely and appropriately.
  • Monitoring stock levels and helping minimise food wastage.
  • Supporting the efficient and organised operation of the kitchen during busy service periods.

Requirements:

  • Relevant commercial cookery qualification.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef.
  • Strong understanding of commercial kitchen operations.
  • Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Good communication, organisational and teamwork skills.

Position: Full-time, ongoing

Hours: Minimum 38 hours per week

Location: Cowes, Phillip Island, Victoria
