A local council is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer to join their team.

Hays is proud to be partnering with a respected organisation seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to join their People & Culture team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in driving a proactive safety culture, supporting employee wellbeing and ensuring compliance across a diverse operational environment.Working closely with leaders across the organisation, you will provide practical WHS advice, manage workers compensation processes, deliver training and contribute to broader People & Culture initiatives.
Your new role
Reporting to the HR Business Partner, you will:
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of WHS policies, procedures and systems.
- Coordinate workers compensation and return-to-work processes.
- Investigate incidents, hazards and near misses, identifying trends and recommending improvements.
- Deliver engaging inductions, toolbox talks and WHS training programs.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
- Provide expert advice to managers and employees on WHS, wellbeing and legislative compliance.
- Support emergency management planning and preparedness initiatives.
- Promote a positive workplace culture that encourages psychological safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
- Assist with broader People & Culture projects, employee engagement activities and policy development.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Qualifications in Work Health and Safety, ideally Certificate IV or Diploma level.
- Previous experience in a WHS-focused role within a complex or operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of Tasmanian WHS and Workers Compensation legislation.
- Experience managing workers compensation claims, injury management and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- The ability to deliver practical, people-focused safety solutions.
- Strong reporting, investigation and analytical capabilities.
- A proactive approach with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
