About the Role:
Curtin Legal Services invites applications from accomplished legal professionals for the role of Senior Legal Counsel. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive legal advice and services on a wide range of governance and administrative matters. Our Legal Services team is instrumental in identifying and managing legal risks, enabling the University to achieve its strategic goals.
We require an experienced lawyer who brings a proactive approach, centred on providing quality advice, strong legal judgment and relationship management. We are looking for a lawyer who wants to make a difference and develop their career in a stimulating environment and who is looking for an opportunity to work on a diverse range of matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on legal risk arising out of contractual, commercial and regulatory matters, including potential disputes and disciplinary proceedings, and being actively involved in anticipating and responding to areas of emerging need.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements spanning the University’s Australian and global operations, including those with strategic partners, and involving academic matters.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams on complex and innovative projects; balancing strategic thinking and being solutions-focussed, whilst managing risk appropriately.
- Promoting legal awareness across the University and engaging with internal and external stakeholders on policy and legislative issues.
- Advising on and developing University statutes and rules and providing advice in a complex and highly regulated environment.
- Instructing and liaising with external law firms in Australia and globally.
Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:
- Relevant legal qualifications, with admission to practice in Western Australia and hold an unrestricted practising certificate.
- Extensive legal experience (6+ years of post-admission experience) preferably in policy, compliance and drafting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, providing clear and commercially astute advice while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism;
- Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Outstanding analytical, research and interpretation skills, with superior commercial acumen.
- Ability to work autonomously, harmoniously and co-operatively as part of a team to provide excellent client service.
This Continuous opportunity attracts a salary package of G09 $142,841 - $150,891 per annum + 17% superannuation.
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
