Job description
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Tax & Compliance Principal to join a leading multidisciplinary professional services firm.
This is a senior technical and leadership position offering the opportunity to work closely with Directors, lead complex tax matters, oversee tax governance and compliance, and play a key role in the ongoing growth and development of the Tax & Advisory practice.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be a senior technical leader across taxation, tax-agent governance and compliance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist advice across complex Australian tax matters including Division 7A, trusts, corporate tax, restructures, CGT, succession planning, GST and cross-border matters
- Leading and supporting ATO reviews, audits, objections, disputes and private ruling applications
- Acting as a senior technical point of reference for Directors, Principals, Managers and wider teams
- Overseeing tax-agent governance, risk management and quality-control frameworks
- Leading internal quality reviews and ensuring appropriate follow-up and remediation
- Keeping the business up to date with changes to tax legislation, ATO guidance and professional requirements
- Delivering technical and compliance training and mentoring team members
- Managing a portfolio of significant clients and providing strategic tax advice
- • Working closely with Accounting, Wealth, Lending, Audit and SMSF teams
- Supporting the Directors with the development, capability and commercial growth of the Tax & Advisory practice
About You
We are looking for a senior tax professional who combines strong technical expertise with commercial judgement and leadership capability.
You will ideally have:
- Significant senior-level Australian tax experience within professional accounting
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification
- Current Tax Agent Registration
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax law and ATO practice
- Experience with complex tax advice and private-group clients
- Demonstrated experience managing ATO reviews, audits, objections or disputes
- Experience across governance, risk, compliance or quality assurance
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work confidently with clients, Directors, regulators and external advisers
- Proven leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
- Strong commercial acumen and professional judgement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Postgraduate qualifications in taxation or law will be highly regarded.
