About the Role

Our client, a leading Australian university, is building out their institutional data governance program. They're seeking an experienced Data Governance Analyst to join their Advanced Analytics Planning & Enterprise Data team.

You'll be responsible for implementing and embedding data governance practices across priority domains, working within a small, focused governance team. This is a high-impact role that combines process design, stakeholder management and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development and maintenance of data governance standards, processes and procedures.
  • Run working groups and stewardship meetings with data owners, stewards and technical teams.
  • Identify, document and help close data governance gaps (e.g., critical data elements without stewards, missing classifications).
  • Support onboarding of data stewards and new data products.
  • Maintain governance documentation, records and artefacts in Collibra or equivalent tools.
  • Develop guidance materials, training content and communications to build data stewardship capability.
  • Report on governance progress, risks and issues to the Data Governance Lead.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of governance processes and tools

About You

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in data governance, data management or related field in a large, complex organisation.
  • Working knowledge of data governance concepts (classification, metadata, stewardship, data quality).
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills; ability to explain governance concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail - comfort with documentation-heavy work.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a small team

Desirable

  • Experience within the university or higher education sector.
  • Hands-on experience with Collibra or equivalent data governance tools.
  • Understanding of NSW privacy and records legislation or broader data protection principles.
  • Tertiary qualification in information management, business, IT or related field

The Details

  • Rate: $900 - $944/day + superannuation
  • Work arrangement: 2 days in office (Sydney) / 3 days remote
  • Contract: To 18th December 2026 with likely extensions
  • Start date: ASAP
