Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Social Workers to join the Acute Social Work team.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

This role comprises of Senior Social Work responsibilities, including providing supervision and leadership to staff, responding to (and assisting staff to respond to) access and flow demands, initiating and leading quality improvement activities as well as providing social work clinical assessment and intervention to patients, predominately on acute unit (Unit 1) at Boradmeadows Hospital. The incumbent will work closely with their Allied Health colleagues and the rest of the multi-disciplinary team in providing comprehensive care and discharge planning to patients and their families. This Senior Social Worker will provide staffing support to the Social Work team at Boradmeadows Hospital and will work closely with the Subacute Social Work Clinical Leader and the Senior Social Workers accross Northern Health. 

This position is fixed term part time (64 hours per fortnight) until September 2027

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Approximately 7 years’ Social Work experience.
  • Possess skills to deliver high quality, evidence-based care for patients with complex care needs.
  • Demonstrates skills to prioritize and manage a complex caseload and to assist others to do so.
  • Demonstrates highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of processes, legislation and community services related to Child Protection, Family Violence, VCAT, Aged Care, NDIS, Elder Abuse, Homelessness and Mental Health
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of relevant community services and legislation relative to health social work.
  • Demonstrated ability to reflect on feedback and make adaptions to practice.
  • Ability to respond to direction and adapt to change.
  • Experienced in educating, supporting and supervising Grade 1 and 2 Social Workers and students.
