General Manager Renewables

Resourceful Recruitment
Melbourne VIC 3004Full time

Listed 29 Sep 2026

  • Newly created executive role with no predecessor, so you can shape it
  • Lead a strong renewables pipeline, with scope for significant expansion
  • Mid-tier agility and autonomy, backed by genuine financial strength

The Company

Our client is a well-established civil contractor. It operates across the renewable energy markets and has a strong appetite for growth, as well as access to strategic partners for integrated delivery.

The business takes on complex, large-scale projects for Tier 1 clients without the bureaucracy of a Tier 1 organisation. It focuses on high-quality revenue rather than growth for growth's sake. Renewables is a major part of the business with a secured and near-term pipeline of work across multiple states.

Your role

This newly created General Manager role is a key appointment in the senior leadership team. You'll own the performance of the renewables portfolio end to end, with your time split roughly 60% focused on operational delivery and 40% focused on front-end. This role can be based in either Melbourne or Brisbane.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking accountability for the safety, commercial, financial and people performance of the renewables portfolio, including large-scale civil infrastructure projects with site workforces of up to several hundred at peak
  • Leading project directors and project managers, and driving a genuine safety-first culture through visible site leadership
  • Representing the business on client steering committees, JV committees and JMCs, and building trusted relationships with clients, JV partners and key stakeholders
  • Managing cost and financial performance, leading monthly reporting to the executive team, and handling tough commercial conversations with confidence
  • Leading execution strategy, go/no-go decisions and executive presentations on tenders, in partnership with the senior management colleagues
  • Making sure delivery resources, subcontract strategy and industrial relations approaches are in place to win and deliver work successfully
  • Integrating project teams into the broader business and building a cohesive, high-performing renewables function
  • East Coast-based with regular travel expected

Your background & experience

  • 15+ years' experience in civil construction and infrastructure delivery, including 10+ years in people leadership
  • Strong operational expertise in civil delivery, with a deep understanding of the civil self-perform and subcontract market and ways of working in the Renewables sector
  • Proven commercial acumen, with a track record in cost control, forecasting, contract administration and negotiation on medium to large complex projects
  • Experience in joint venture environments and participation in JV committees
  • A values-led, high-EQ leader who is comfortable on site, relates to everyone from operators to executives, and calls things out respectfully
  • A self-starter who thrives on autonomy and accountability, with the flexibility to lead across a broadening energy infrastructure portfolio
  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

Benefits to you

  • A genuinely influential executive role with a clear pathway to broader leadership in the business
  • The chance to build and shape a function from the ground up in a purpose-driven sector with long-term demand
  • High autonomy and accountability, where your success is up to you
  • The stability and growth ambitions of a financially strong group
  • An attractive executive remuneration package
