This role is hands-on. It designs foundations and components, writes the guidance that goes with them, co-owns the governance of the design system, and works with front-end engineering so that what is designed and what is coded are consistent.
Responsibilities include:
- Partner with Engineering Product Owner to develop design system foundations & road map including components & patterns
- Develop & define the token taxonomy so brand, themes and accessibility are enforced by the system rather than re-decided in every squad
- Design the system to WCAG 2.2 AA ensuring accessibility is built into the detail of every component
- Write and maintain documentation that allows designers or engineers correct component usage allowing for ease of use and growth in adoption
- Partner with front-end engineering so the designed library and the coded library stay in parity (React Native)
- Incorporate AI readability and interaction with AI agents into the Design System.
Be Impactful when you are applying…
The ideal candidate will be a senior, hands-on user experience and interface designer who has designed customer-facing digital products and has designed systems, used by multiple squads. You will also have most of the following:
- Substantial experience (5+ years) designing digital products and experiences end to end, with a track record of shipping interfaces that delivered measurable customer and/or commercial outcomes.
- Strong craft across interaction and interface design, including state design, prototyping and visual design, with high fluency in Figma and its component, variant and variable capabilities.
- Systems thinking, with the ability to design for reuse and composition and to hold coherence across a large surface area built by different teams.
- Practical accessibility capability, with a working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA and demonstrated experience designing accessible components and testing with assistive technology.
- Technical fluency sufficient to partner credibly with front-end engineering on a coded component library, including an understanding of how experiences need to be designed for React Native.
- Working capability in evaluative research and usability testing, and the ability to use behavioural data and analytics to inform and defend a design decision.
- Fluency with AI as both a design material and a design tool, with judgement about where it adds value and where it does not.
- Is resilient, pragmatic with strong communication skills.
