Concubine is an established Chinese restaurant located in the heart of Adelaide's Gouger Street dining precinct. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of dishes to consistently high standards, supporting the efficient operation of the kitchen and maintaining the quality and presentation expected by the restaurant.
Key Duties
- Prepare, cook and present a range of Chinese and Asian-inspired dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards;
- Prepare ingredients and undertake cooking using a range of techniques, including wok cooking, steaming, braising, roasting and frying;
- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation;
- Assist with planning and developing menu items and daily or seasonal specials;
- Ensure appropriate portioning, presentation and consistency of dishes;
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies;
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and ensure appropriate storage;
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards;
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food preparation during service; and
- Assist with training and supervising junior kitchen staff where required.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification;
- At least 3 years of relevant experience as a Chef or in a comparable commercial kitchen role;
- Sound knowledge of commercial food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations;
- Experience in Chinese and/or Asian cuisine will be highly regarded;
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy restaurant environment while maintaining quality and consistency;
- Good organisational, communication and teamwork skills;
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements; and
- Availability to work across the restaurant's operational requirements, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
