Head of Operational Risk - Retail Banking (Line 2)

A leading Australian financial services organisation is strengthening its senior risk capability across a range of complex business portfolios. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing second-line function and partner with senior leaders to influence risk outcomes across the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead second-line oversight of operational and non-financial risk across a designated portfolio.
• Provide independent challenge on risk assessments, controls, risk appetite and framework effectiveness.
• Identify material risks, control weaknesses and emerging themes across end-to-end value chains.
• Challenge remediation plans and monitor whether risk outcomes are sustainably improved.
• Provide clear, commercially grounded risk advice to senior leaders and governance forums.
• Lead and develop risk capability while promoting strong risk culture and sound judgement.

What You'll Need to Succeed

• 15+ years’ experience in financial services with a strong track record in operational and non-financial risk.
• Proven Line 2 risk management experience within the retail banking/financial services space.
• Strong operational and non-financial risk expertise, with an understanding of end-to-end value chains.
• Demonstrated ability to constructively challenge Line 1 and influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex risk issues into clear, practical advice.
• Executive-level communication skills and experience operating within senior governance forums.
