Tasks and Responsibilities
- Prepare dental treatment rooms and equipment before patient appointments.
- Prepare and arrange dental instruments, materials and supplies required for procedures.
- Assist dentists and dental practitioners during examinations, treatments and procedures.
- Pass instruments and materials to dental practitioners during clinical procedures.
- Prepare patients for dental treatment and provide appropriate support throughout appointments.
- Clean, disinfect and sterilise dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection-control procedures.
- Set up and dismantle treatment areas following dental procedures.
- Follow appropriate infection-prevention and control practices.
- Maintain adequate supplies of dental materials, instruments and consumables.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and receiving dental supplies.
- Assist with dental impressions, x-rays and other procedures where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Provide patients with basic information and instructions regarding dental procedures and post-treatment care as directed by the dental practitioner.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
- Assist with appointment scheduling, patient reception and general administrative duties where required.
- Follow workplace health and safety, infection-control and practice policies.
- Provide courteous and compassionate support to patients, including children, elderly patients and anxious patients.
- Work collaboratively with dentists, hygienists, reception staff and other members of the dental team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III in Dental Assisting or another relevant recognised qualification in Dental Assisting.
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant full-time experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinical support role.
- Demonstrated experience assisting dental practitioners during examinations and procedures.
- Knowledge of dental instruments, materials, equipment and clinical procedures.
- Understanding of infection prevention, sterilisation and clinical hygiene requirements.
- Ability to prepare and maintain dental treatment rooms and equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach.
- Ability to maintain accurate patient and clinical records.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established clinical procedures.
- Ability and willingness to work a minimum of 38 ordinary hours per week, with reasonable additional hours as required by operational needs.
