Qualified Diesel Mechanic wanted for a permanent opportunity in Canberra
Your New CompanyHays Trades & Labour is partnering with a leading organisation operating a large fleet of heavy vehicles across Canberra. Due to continued growth, an opportunity exists for a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join a well-established workshop team. This permanent position offers flexibility, job security and genuine opportunities for career progression within a growing business.
Your New RoleAs a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles and trucks to ensure reliability, safety and operational performance. Your duties will include:
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs on heavy vehicles and trucks
- Conducting routine servicing and preventative maintenance
- Completing inspections and identifying mechanical issues
- Repairing and replacing mechanical components as required
- Maintaining service records and workshop documentation
- Working closely with supervisors and workshop personnel
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Contributing to the efficient operation of the workshop
What You'll Need to SucceedTo be successful in this role, you will have:
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Diesel Mechanic
- Experience servicing and repairing trucks and heavy vehicles
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities
- Ability to work effectively under supervision
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Reliable and professional approach to work
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable:
- HR Driver's Licence
- Experience working on fleet vehicles
- Exposure to waste management, transport or logistics fleets
