Strelley Community Maintenance
South HedlandAward
Listed 17 Sep 2026
Closes 16 Dec 2026
This project aims to support the remote Strelley Community through a structured community maintenance and improvement program delivered by AAC Mentors in collaboration with Job Seeker participants. The project will focus on enhancing community safety, hygiene, and cultural responsibilities by removing waste, reducing hazards, relocating non-operational vehicles, and maintaining communal areas. Weekly assessments and Job Hazard Analyses will guide task planning and allocation, ensuring activities are tailored to each participant’s capabilities. Participants, guided by Mentors, will engage in activities such as rubbish removal, vegetation clearing, hazard reduction, and general maintenance of communal spaces, while also supporting culturally significant tasks, including preparing sorry grounds, digging graves, and creating grave markers in consultation with Elders. The project is designed to provide meaningful, skill-building work for participants while progressively clearing sections of each community, establishing sustainable maintenance routines, and reducing environmental risks for all residents, including children and elders. Engagement with community representatives, Elders, and residents will inform priority areas, cultural considerations, and safety requirements, ensuring that all work is respectful, coordinated, and responsive to community needs.
