The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of small engines, farm vehicles, and agricultural machinery used across farming and packaging operations. This role ensures machinery is reliable, efficient, and compliant with Australian workplace health, safety, and environmental standards, supporting the smooth operation of our farm and packaging facilities.

Task & responsibilities

  • Detect, diagnose, and repair faults in small engines, agricultural machinery, and mechanical systems using visual inspection, diagnostic tools, and computer-assisted testing equipment.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, and replace engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other mechanical components for farm vehicles and machinery.
  • Reassemble engines and mechanical systems after repair in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and engine tune-ups to ensure machinery operates efficiently and in compliance with emissions regulations.
  • Test, adjust, and fine-tune mechanical parts after repair to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure farm vehicles and machinery are safe, operational, and, where authorised, issue roadworthiness certificates or recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, service logs, and compliance documentation in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with farming and packaging teams to ensure machinery availability and support continuous production operations.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety policies, environmental standards, and quality control procedures across all farming and packaging operations.
  • Support commitment to innovation and operational excellence by recommending improvements to machinery or maintenance processes.

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Small Engine Mechanics, or a related trade.
  • Current and valid driver’s licence.
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience in a farm or agricultural working environment.
  • Experience or relevant authorisation to inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the maintenance and repair of agricultural or farm machinery is highly desirable.

The business has operated in the Australian agricultural industry for over 25 years. DTProduce currently operates three farms across Western Australia, producing and harvesting a range of agricultural products, including tomatoes, Brussels sprouts and strawberries, throughout the year.
