About the Role

Evolve Tennis is seeking an experienced Sports Development Officer – Tennis Programs to plan, develop, coordinate and oversee tennis participation and player development programs across our network.

The position has a strong focus on sports development, participation growth, program planning, player pathways, community engagement and coordination of coaching resources.

While the role requires a strong technical understanding of tennis and may involve practical coaching and supervision, its primary focus is the development, coordination and expansion of structured tennis programs and participation pathways, rather than solely the delivery of individual coaching sessions.

Evolve Tennis is a well established and growing tennis organisation delivering structured tennis programs across multiple venues in Sydney. Our programs cater to junior development, adult participation, school and community programs, competition pathways and player development.

We work with players, families, schools, community organisations and sporting stakeholders to increase participation in tennis and provide structured pathways for players to progress from introductory programs through to competitive participation.

About the Role

Evolve Tennis is seeking an experienced Sports Development Officer – Tennis Programs to plan, develop, coordinate and oversee tennis participation and player development programs across our network.

The position has a strong focus on sports development, participation growth, program planning, player pathways, community engagement and coordination of coaching resources.

While the role requires a strong technical understanding of tennis and may involve practical coaching and supervision, its primary focus is the development, coordination and expansion of structured tennis programs and participation pathways, rather than solely the delivery of individual coaching sessions.

Key Responsibilities

The Sports Development Officer will:

  • Plan, develop and implement structured tennis participation and development programs for juniors, adults, schools and community groups; 
  • Develop and oversee player development pathways from introductory and beginner programs through to intermediate, advanced and competitive tennis; 
  • Assess participant development and identify opportunities for players to progress into appropriate training, competition and performance programs; 
  • Coordinate the delivery of tennis programs across multiple venues, including schools and community facilities; 
  • Plan and direct tennis development strategies designed to increase participation, improve player retention and support long-term program growth; 
  • Organise and oversee tennis competitions, tournaments, development events, holiday programs and other participation initiatives; 
  • Coordinate player participation and progression into appropriate competitions and development activities; 
  • Recruit, coordinate, supervise and support tennis coaches and program assistants involved in the delivery of development programs; 
  • Provide guidance to coaching staff regarding program structure, player development objectives and delivery standards; 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, clubs, councils, community organisations and other sporting stakeholders to expand participation opportunities; 
  • Promote tennis participation and development programs through community engagement, outreach activities and sporting initiatives; 
  • Monitor participation levels, player progression, program retention and program performance, and prepare reports to assist with future program planning; 
  • Identify opportunities for new tennis programs, participation initiatives and development pathways; 
  • Ensure programs are conducted in accordance with relevant tennis rules, sporting standards, child-safety requirements, workplace health and safety obligations and organisational policies; and 
  • Contribute to the strategic development and continued growth of Evolve Tennis programs. 

Qualification & experience

Skills & Experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A Diploma or higher qualification in sport, recreation, sports coaching, sports development or a related field; or 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of a formal qualification; 
  • At least 3 years' relevant experience in tennis coaching, sports development, sports program coordination or a closely related sporting environment; 
  • Demonstrated experience delivering and/or developing structured junior and adult sports programs; 
  • Strong knowledge of tennis player development pathways from beginner through to competitive levels; 
  • Experience working with junior development programs, schools, adult programs and/or community sporting programs; 
  • Experience organising competitions, tournaments, camps or sporting development activities; 
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise and support coaches and program staff; 
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder-management skills; and 
  • A strong understanding of safe and professional sporting program delivery. 
  • Experience in Red, Orange and Green Ball junior development programs, adult development programs, school tennis programs and competition pathways will be highly regarded.
