A principal underground mining contractor based in WA, is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join its team on a full-time basis.
Position Overview:
The Geotechnical Engineer will plan, direct and conduct geotechnical survey and investigation work to assess the behaviour of soil and rock under the loads imposed by underground mining infrastructure and excavations providing geotechnical input into mine design, backfill planning and ground support systems, to ensure the safety and stability of underground operations across active client sites.

Task & responsibilities
- Plan, direct and conduct geotechnical survey and investigation work to analyse the likely behaviour of soil and rock under the loads imposed by underground mining infrastructure.
- Obtain and test soil and rock samples to determine strength, compressibility, and other properties relevant to ground support and stability design.
- Design ground support systems, above- and below-ground foundations, and stability solutions for underground infrastructure and backfill operations.
- Assess and monitor ground conditions across active underground sites, identifying geotechnical hazards and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Provide geotechnical input into mine design, backfill planning, and underground infrastructure projects in collaboration with mining, civil and structural engineers.
- Prepare geotechnical reports, specifications, and technical documentation to support project design and client deliverables.
- Support project teams and site personnel with technical geotechnical advice throughout construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and standards (including OH&S and environmental regulations).
- Continuously review and improve geotechnical assessment methods and ground control practices to optimise safety and site performance
Qualification & experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Mining Engineering, or a related discipline (essential).
- Proven experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, with a solid background in underground mining or civil infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, ground support systems, and foundation design.
- Experience with geotechnical analysis and modelling tools relevant to underground mining applications.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of Australian standards and regulations for engineering
- Registration or professional accreditation with Engineers Australia (or eligibility to obtain) highly regarded.
- Willingness to travel to underground mining sites as required.
