Side Street Cafe Pty Ltd is seeking a full-time Chef to join its kitchen team and support the café’s growing operations. The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking high-quality café-style meals that align with Side Street Cafe Ballajura’s menu and customer expectations. The role involves organising daily kitchen operations, maintaining consistency in food presentation, and ensuring all dishes are prepared efficiently during breakfast, brunch, and lunch service. The Chef manages stock levels, oversees food safety and hygiene standards, and supports the development of new menu items that reflect the café’s fresh, community-focused approach. The position also requires coordinating with kitchen staff, training junior team members, and ensuring smooth workflow during busy periods to deliver an excellent dining experience for customers.

Task & responsibilities
- Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food, including planning café-style menus that suit breakfast, brunch, and lunch service.
- Estimate food and labour costs, manage stock levels, and order supplies to ensure efficient and cost-effective kitchen operations.
- Monitor the quality, taste, and presentation of dishes at every stage of preparation to maintain consistent café standards.
- Discuss food preparation requirements and service issues with the Café Manager and kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth coordination.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on correct procedures to maintain consistency and efficiency.
- Prepare and cook a variety of fresh meals in line with the café’s menu, ensuring timely service during busy periods.
- Enforce food safety and hygiene regulations, maintaining a clean and compliant kitchen environment at all times.
- Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff, and carry out food preservation tasks such as freezing and storing ingredients when required.
Qualification & experience
- Formal qualification in Kitchen Management (Certificate IV) or equivalent industry training.
- Proven experience preparing and cooking a variety of dishes in a café, restaurant, or similar commercial kitchen environment, with a minimum of 1-year relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food safety standards, hygiene regulations, and safe kitchen practices.
- Experience in supervising, training, or guiding kitchen staff, with the ability to manage workflow during busy service periods.
