The Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Mechanic will install and assemble air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, carry out maintenance, diagnose faults, and support associated mechanical services.

Work location: Murarrie Queensland 4172 and Client Sites

Task & responsibilities

• Install and assemble air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, including split systems, ducted systems, and VRF/VRV systems, and commercial refrigeration units and chillers (where applicable)
• Interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer technical manuals
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in air-conditioning and control systems
• Assist licensed team members with system testing, pressure testing, evacuation, and refrigerant charging under direct supervision
• Carry out routine and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal system performance, efficiency, and reliability
• Install and support ductwork, brackets, mounting frames, and structural fixings for indoor/outdoor units
• Run and terminate electrical control wiring, low-voltage cabling, and thermostat/controller connections
• Install and commission condensate drainage systems
• Fault-find and repair electrical components (contactors, capacitors, PCBs, sensors, wiring faults)
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot zone controllers and wall/BMS controllers (e.g. AirTouch, MyAir, Daikin/Mitsubishi wired controllers)
• Conduct pre-commissioning checks (airflow balancing, electrical continuity, control sequence testing) prior to handover for refrigerant-side commissioning
• Maintain accurate service records, fault logs, and maintenance reports
• Order, track, and manage spare parts and consumables
• Liaise with clients, site supervisors, and subcontractors regarding scheduling and job progress
• Comply with WHS requirements, site inductions, and safe work method statements
• Support installation and maintenance of associated mechanical services (fans, dampers, grilles/diffusers, ductwork insulation)

Qualification & experience

• Relevant qualification or experience in air-conditioning and refrigeration.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience in air-conditioning and refrigeration installation, maintenance and fault-finding.
• Experience with split, ducted and VRF/VRV systems, commercial refrigeration units and chillers.
• Knowledge of electrical control wiring, low-voltage cabling, thermostats and controllers.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
• Experience with testing, pre-commissioning, condensate drainage, ductwork and associated mechanical services.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Understanding of WHS requirements and safe work practices.
