Moombaki Institutes Pty Ltd trading as Moombaki Early Learning is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our team in Bennett Springs, WA.
The Cook will be responsible for planning, preparing and cooking nutritious, fresh and appealing meals and snacks for children in accordance with the centre's menu, dietary requirements and food safety standards. The successful applicant will work closely with the centre management and educators to ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
The role requires a strong understanding of food preparation, cooking techniques, portion control, hygiene and kitchen operations, with particular attention to the nutritional needs and dietary requirements of young children.

Task & responsibilities
- Plan and prepare daily menus and meals in consultation with centre management and in accordance with nutritional requirements.
- Prepare, season and cook a variety of meals, snacks and special dietary meals.
- Follow recipes and modify ingredients and cooking methods where required.
- Ensure meals are nutritious, fresh, well-presented and suitable for young children.
- Prepare meals according to individual dietary requirements, allergies, intolerances and cultural or medical dietary needs.
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes and established portions.
- Operate and monitor kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
- Order, receive and store food supplies appropriately and monitor stock levels.
- Maintain appropriate food storage, labelling and rotation procedures.
- Ensure food is prepared, cooked, stored and served in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen and food preparation area.
- Clean and sanitise cooking equipment, utensils, benches and other kitchen areas.
- Monitor food preparation areas to minimise the risk of contamination.
- Maintain records relating to food preparation, cleaning, temperatures, stock and dietary requirements where required.
- Minimise food wastage through appropriate portion control, storage and stock management.
- Work collaboratively with centre management and educators to coordinate meal service.
- Assist with menu planning and contribute ideas for improving meal variety and nutritional value.
- Ensure all kitchen activities comply with applicable workplace health and safety and food safety requirements.
Qualification & experience
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery, Cookery or a related hospitality field is preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of full-time relevant experience as a Cook or in a similar commercial kitchen environment.
- Experience preparing meals for children or within an early learning, childcare, school, aged care or similar institutional environment will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to cater for dietary requirements, food allergies and special dietary needs.
- Ability to follow menus, recipes and portion requirements accurately.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, food quality and presentation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
