Our client is a leading South Australian engineering and fabrication business delivering high-quality structural steel, pressure vessel, tank and piping projects across a diverse range of industries. Due to continued growth, they are seeking experienced Welders/Boilermakers for both day and afternoon shift positions within their modern workshop facility.
Your new role
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will play a key role in the fabrication and welding of complex metal components, pressure vessels, piping and structural steelwork. Working within a quality-driven environment, you will be responsible for interpreting technical drawings, completing coded welding work, conducting self-inspections and ensuring all projects meet Australian Standards and client specifications.
- Fabricating structural steel, tanks, pressure vessels and piping to tight tolerances
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, welding symbols and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Performing high-quality welding using FCAW, GMAW, GTAW (TIG) and SMAW processes
- Completing coded welding work in accordance with Australian Standards
- Conducting self-inspections and identifying welding defects prior to quality inspections
- Assembling fabricated components, pressure vessels and structural frames
- Completing quality documentation including ITPs, work packs and inspection records
- Supporting visual inspections, NDT requirements and dimensional checks
- Maintaining welding equipment and workshop tools
- Participating in ongoing Welder Qualification Testing (WQT) as required
- Trade qualification in Engineering Fabrication or similar
- Demonstrated experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel, piping or pressure vessel environments
- Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols
- Sound understanding of Australian welding standards and quality requirements
- High-level proficiency in FCAW and GMAW welding processes
- Strong TIG (GTAW) welding capability
- Experience working to coded welding procedures and specifications
- Ability to self-inspect work and identify defects against allowable tolerances
- Safe operation of overhead cranes, workshop equipment and power tools
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
- Coded welding experience to AS1554, AS3992 and AS4041 standards
- Positional welding experience
- Confined Space ticket and experience
- Pressure vessel or piping fabrication experience
