The Trustee for LMOR AU Trust T/A Little Hippo Landscapes is seeking a skilled and reliable Landscape Gardener to join its landscaping team in Butler, Western Australia.

The successful candidate will assist with the construction, planting, installation and maintenance of residential, commercial and outdoor landscape environments. The role involves preparing sites, installing hard and soft landscaping features, planting and turfing, maintaining gardens, and supporting irrigation and reticulation works where required.

The position requires practical horticultural and landscape construction skills, attention to detail, safe operation of tools and equipment, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a landscaping team.

Task & responsibilities

  • Interpret landscape plans, drawings, specifications and site requirements to plan and carry out landscaping work.
  • Select suitable plants, materials, soil products and other landscaping components according to project requirements.
  • Prepare and organise sites for landscape construction, including clearing, excavation, soil preparation and establishment of garden beds.
  • Set out and install hard and soft landscape structures and features.
  • Construct gravel and paved areas, garden paths, retaining features, walls, fences, trellises, pergolas and other garden structures as required.
  • Prepare seedbeds and growing sites by improving soil condition, levelling areas and applying suitable soil amendments.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges, flowers, bulbs and other plants in accordance with landscape plans and planting requirements.
  • Prepare lawn areas by spreading topsoil, preparing growing surfaces, planting grass seed and laying instant turf.
  • Install and maintain garden edging, mulching, garden beds and other landscape finishes.
  • Assist with irrigation and reticulation installation, including pipes, sprinklers, pumps and associated components where required.
  • Test, maintain and repair irrigation or reticulation components and report faults where identified.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, landscaping machinery, mowers and other equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out garden maintenance activities including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilising and general plant care.
  • Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas and dispose of green waste and construction materials appropriately.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures, environmental requirements and safe work practices.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, presentation, alignment and compliance with project specifications.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, clients, contractors and other trades to coordinate landscaping activities.

Qualification & experience

  • AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in a relevant landscaping, horticulture or landscape construction discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience 
  • Relevant practical experience in landscape construction, garden installation and horticultural maintenance.
  • Experience with hard landscaping such as paving, pathways, retaining features, fencing, edging and other garden structures is highly regarded.
  • Understanding of irrigation and reticulation installation, maintenance and basic troubleshooting is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret landscape plans, drawings, measurements and project specifications.
  • Competence in safely operating landscaping tools, machinery and equipment.
  • Good knowledge of plants, soil preparation, turfing and general horticultural practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Good communication, teamwork, reliability and time-management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work a minimum of 38 ordinary hours per week, with reasonable additional hours as required by operational needs.
  • Relevant licences, tickets or site-specific requirements must be held where applicable.
