The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Farm Hand to join our broadacre cropping operation in Kellerberrin, Western Australia.
This is a senior operational position responsible for managing and supervising the planting, cultivation and harvesting of broadacre crops, while remaining actively involved in machinery operation and other practical farming activities.
The successful applicant will coordinate daily farm activities, supervise other farm workers as required, operate agricultural machinery, monitor work quality and progress, and ensure seasonal crop programs are carried out efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise broadacre crop production, including paddock preparation, soil amelioration, seeding, spraying, fertilising, harvesting and post-harvest activities
- Manage and coordinate the implementation of seasonal cropping programs in consultation with business owners and agronomic advisers
- Plan and coordinate daily cropping activities, machinery requirements and allocation of farm workers
- Organise, train and supervise permanent, seasonal and casual farm workers and their daily work routines
- Supervise and undertake the operation of modern broadacre agricultural machinery and equipment
- Operate tractors, seeding machinery, spraying and spreading equipment, headers and other machinery used throughout the cropping cycle
- Supervise and undertake routine inspection, servicing and maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment
- Operate and monitor GPS-guided machinery, precision farming technology and crop production systems
- Monitor crop conditions, crop production activities and operational performance
- Supervise the application of agricultural chemicals and undertake chemical application where appropriately qualified
- Oversee the inspection and maintenance of farm infrastructure, including sheds, silos, fencing and water systems
- Maintain accurate records relating to spraying, chemicals, farm inputs, yields, machinery and weather
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers and service providers involved in cropping operations
- Ensure day-to-day cropping activities comply with workplace health and safety requirements
- Liaise with business owners, agronomic advisers, contractors and suppliers regarding cropping operations and priorities
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in broadacre cropping operations
- Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing day-to-day cropping activities
- Strong practical knowledge of broadacre crop production, including seeding, spraying, fertilising and harvesting
- Extensive experience operating a range of broadacre agricultural machinery and equipment
- Experience supervising or coordinating farm workers
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability to undertake routine machinery maintenance and minor repairs
- Ability to plan and organise daily work activities and manage competing operational priorities
- Ability to work independently, take responsibility and make practical day-to-day operational decisions
- Good communication, organisational and record-keeping skills
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Current driver's licence
- Current ChemCert accreditation or willingness to obtain
- HC or MC driver's licence desirable, or willingness to obtain
