The Role

We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator to join our broadacre cropping operation in Kellerberrin, Western Australia.

This is a hands-on, machinery-focused role responsible for the safe and efficient operation of agricultural machinery and mobile plant throughout the cropping cycle, including paddock preparation, seeding, spraying, spreading and harvesting.

The successful applicant will operate and maintain a range of modern agricultural machinery and ensure plant and equipment are prepared, maintained and available for seasonal cropping operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate tractors and agricultural machinery used for paddock preparation, seeding, spraying, spreading and harvesting 
• Operate headers and other harvesting machinery 
• Operate mobile plant used to load, move and handle seed, fertiliser, grain and other farm inputs and produce 
• Attach, set up and operate agricultural implements and equipment 
• Operate GPS-guided and precision agricultural machinery 
• Prepare machinery and plant for seeding, spraying, harvesting and other seasonal operations 
• Conduct pre-start inspections and daily safety checks 
• Monitor machinery performance and identify faults, wear and maintenance requirements 
• Undertake routine servicing, adjustments and minor repairs to machinery and equipment 
• Clean and maintain plant and machinery and ensure equipment is ready for operation 
• Assist with machinery repairs and maintenance during seeding and harvest periods 
• Safely handle seed, fertiliser and agricultural chemicals associated with machinery operations 
• Load and unload agricultural inputs and harvested grain where required 
• Operate farm vehicles and trucks where appropriately licensed 
• Maintain machinery, servicing and operational records 
• Assist with general farm activities associated with plant and machinery operations 
• Comply with workplace health and safety requirements and safe machinery operating procedures 
• Perform other plant and machinery duties consistent with the role and operational needs of the business 

Skills and Experience

• Minimum 2 years' relevant experience operating agricultural machinery or mobile plant 
• Experience working in a broadacre cropping environment 
• Experience operating tractors and associated agricultural implements 
• Experience with seeding, spraying, spreading and/or harvesting machinery 
• Experience operating modern GPS-guided agricultural equipment 
• Good mechanical aptitude and practical machinery maintenance skills  
• Ability to conduct pre-start inspections, routine servicing and minor repairs 
• Ability to identify mechanical and operational problems 
• Strong awareness of safe machinery operating procedures 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, particularly during seeding and harvest 
• Current driver's licence 
• HC or MC driver's licence desirable, or willingness to obtain 
• ChemCert accreditation desirable
