Welder (Full Time)

This is a full-time, permanent, hands-on position in our purpose-built factory. You will fabricate and repair steel and aluminium chassis, trailer bases and related metal components from raw stock through to finished product. You will work from engineering drawings with an experienced production team, and every weld you lay ends up under a caravan that will travel some of the toughest roads in the country.

Task & responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings and specifications to work out what each job needs.
• Choosing suitable metal stock, then cleaning and preparing it for fabrication.
• Cutting marked-out sections and profiles using hand tools, oxy/flame cutting equipment and metal cutting machinery.
• Forming and bending metal sections and pipe with hand and machine tools, including heating and hammering where required.
• Positioning and aligning components accurately before joining, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Joining metal sections using a range of welding processes, as well as bolting and riveting.
• Inspecting completed welds for bead width, penetration and accuracy to make sure they meet quality standards.
• Dressing welds to a clean, smooth finish by filing, chiselling and grinding.
• Finishing fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing and acid bath treatment.
• Fabricating and repairing metal products and components using a variety of welding techniques.

Qualification & experience

• A relevant trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience as a welder in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in MIG welding, with TIG and aluminium welding experience highly regarded.
• Ability to read and work from technical drawings.
• A strong eye for detail and pride in producing quality work.
• Reliability, a good safety mindset and the ability to work well in a team.
