TYRES AND AUTO CHAMPIONS PTY LTD T/A Goodyear Autocare Winnellie is seeking a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic to join its team on a full-time basis.
About the Role
The Motor Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing light motor vehicles. The successful candidate will undertake mechanical servicing and repairs across engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking and associated vehicle systems while ensuring work is completed safely and to a high professional standard.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in vehicle engines, components and associated systems using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Diagnose and test vehicle components using computerised diagnostic systems and scan tools where required.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components for inspection, servicing and repair.
- Inspect mechanical components to identify wear, damage, faults and other conditions affecting vehicle performance or safety.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged and defective parts and components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service requirements.
- Reassemble engines, transmissions and other mechanical components following repairs and ensure components are correctly installed and adjusted.
- Carry out scheduled and preventative maintenance services, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, engine servicing and tune-ups.
- Test and adjust repaired mechanical components and systems to ensure correct operation, reliability and performance.
- Inspect, maintain and repair vehicle braking, steering and suspension systems where required.
- Assist with wheel, tyre and related mechanical work, including identifying vehicle issues that may contribute to abnormal tyre wear, steering or handling concerns.
- Refer to manufacturer specifications, technical information and service manuals when undertaking diagnosis, servicing and repairs.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and identify mechanical work required to maintain vehicle safety and roadworthiness.
- Perform final operational checks and road testing, where appropriate, to verify the effectiveness of completed repairs.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records and communicate identified faults and required repairs to relevant team members.
- Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop areas in a clean, organised and serviceable condition.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and ensure all mechanical work is performed in accordance with applicable automotive industry standards and regulations.
Skills and Requirements
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or a relevant equivalent automotive trade qualification.
- At least 2 years of relevant hands-on experience as a Motor Mechanic or Light Vehicle Mechanic is preferred.
- Alternatively, at least 3 years of relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of the formal qualification, where appropriate.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing, servicing and repairing light motor vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of petrol engines, transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems.
- Experience using computerised vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical testing tools.
- Ability to dismantle, repair, replace and correctly reassemble mechanical components.
- Sound understanding of scheduled servicing and preventative vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and repair information.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a workshop team.
- Good attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality workmanship and vehicle safety.
- Current driver's licence or ability to obtain one, where required for the position.
- Relevant registration or licensing where required by applicable legislation.
