FORMWORK CARPENTER

Nautical Pools is hiring for the position of Formwork Carpenter in the area of Dubbo, NSW. The Formwork Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and dismantling formwork systems used in the construction of concrete swimming pools and associated structures. The role involves interpreting plans, preparing and assembling formwork, ensuring accurate dimensions and levels, and working closely with steel fixers, concreters, and site supervisors to deliver high-quality pool construction projects. This is a full-time position with annual remuneration of between $75,000 to $95,000 (negotiable depending on skills/experience) on offer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, pool plans, specifications, and project documentation to determine construction requirements.
  • Measure, mark, cut, shape and assemble timber, plywood, steel, composite formwork systems and other materials required for pool construction.
  • Construct, erect and install formwork for in-ground concrete swimming pools, spas, retaining walls, balance tanks, pump rooms, and associated structures.
  • Set out pool dimensions, depths, radii, penetrations, skimmer boxes and structural features in accordance with approved plans.
  • Install and secure braces, supports, props and temporary structures to maintain formwork stability during concrete placement.
  • Work in conjunction with steel fixers to ensure reinforcement is correctly positioned within the formwork before concrete pours.
  • Inspect completed formwork for accuracy, alignment, level, plumb, dimensional tolerances and structural integrity.
  • Coordinate and assist with concrete placement activities to ensure formwork remains secure throughout the pouring process.
  • Strip, remove and clean formwork after concrete has cured, ensuring surfaces meet project quality standards.
  • Repair, modify and reuse formwork systems where appropriate to maximise efficiency and minimise waste.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, laser levels, measuring equipment and other construction machinery used in formwork carpentry.
  • Ensure pool shells, retaining structures and associated concrete elements comply with engineering specifications and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Assist with excavation preparation, site establishment, temporary works and general carpentry tasks related to swimming pool construction.
  • Identify and rectify defects, construction issues, alignment discrepancies and potential safety hazards on site.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and clients regarding project progress and site requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant trade qualification or equivalent employment experience.
  • Minimum two years' experience in formwork carpentry.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings.
  • Experience working with timber, plywood, modular and proprietary formwork systems.
  • Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a construction team.
