Placed.au is looking for a full-time Metal Fabricator for our client in Bankstown, New South Wales. This role is responsible for fabricating, assembling, repairing, and modifying metal components and equipment in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and site requirements.
Job Description
-Fabricate and assemble metal components and structures for waste chute systems, discharge assemblies, waste-room equipment, balers, augers, compactors, bin lifters and customised waste-management solutions.
-Study engineering drawings, shop drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, fabrication methods and job requirements.
-Select, clean and prepare appropriate structural steel, sheet metal and other metal stock for fabrication.
-Mark out metal sections and components using measuring instruments, templates and engineering specifications.
-Cut metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame-cutting equipment and metal-cutting machinery.
-Shape, form and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, including guillotines, folders, presses, rollers and related workshop equipment.
-Position and align parts for assembly using hand tools, jigs, clamps and precision measuring instruments.
-Join metal components using appropriate welding techniques, bolting and riveting to produce complete assemblies.
-Inspect welds and fabricated assemblies for bead width, penetration, accuracy, alignment and dimensional compliance, and rectify defects where required.
-Finish fabricated products by cleaning, grinding, filing, chiselling and polishing welds and metal surfaces.
-Confirm completed components and equipment are functional, fit for installation and compliant with drawings, specifications and required quality standards.
-Repair and modify metal products and structures used in waste-management systems, including chute components, hoppers, frames, guards, doors, brackets and equipment housings.
-Diagnose faults, damage and dimensional issues, determine suitable repair methods, and remove, repair or replace damaged metal components.
-Undertake workshop fabrication and pre-assembly of systems before delivery, installation or commissioning at client sites.
-Work collaboratively with engineering, installation, service and project personnel on customised equipment and larger projects, including manoeuvring and aligning components safely.
-Follow workplace health and safety procedures, safe welding and fabrication practices, and applicable quality requirements while using tools, machinery and lifting equipment.
-Maintain tools, fabrication equipment, workstations and the workshop in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
Qualifications / Attributes
-Must hold a Certificate III qualification in Metal Fabrication or equivalent, or at least three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
-Must possess at least three (3) years of relevant work experience in metal fabrication.
-Strong attention to detail and sound fabrication skills.
-Ability to interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, blueprints and specifications.
-Ability to use measuring instruments, hand tools, fabrication machinery and workshop equipment safely and proficiently.
-Sound knowledge of welding, metal cutting, shaping, forming, bending and assembly techniques.
-Ability to inspect fabricated components and identify and rectify defects or dimensional issues.
-Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, installation, service and project personnel.
-Strong commitment to workplace health and safety and quality requirements.
Salary Range
$75,000 – $95,000 per annum excluding superannuation.
