Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a multi-discipline engineering delivery team.
- Preparing technical detail to support bid submissions, contract documentation, technical literature, or customer enquiries.
- Review, evaluate and validate relevant design inputs and performance criteria.
- Develop mechanical specifications for subcontractor quotations and tenders.
- Preparing both basic and detailed designs, with supporting calculations / appropriate documentation for development of drawings, specifications, and data sheets.
- Reviewing equipment, and design, including HAZOPs, Safety in Design reviews, Risk workshops, etc.
- Provide all supporting schedules including equipment lists, line lists, valves schedules, etc.
- Design of mechanical systems according to processes and plant control philosophy, ensuring drawings, design deliverables and technical submissions align with best practice and project specifications.
- Participate in checking and approving vendor and subcontractor design, including attendance of Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Test (SATs).
Essential Requirements:
- Knowledge of detailed design in the water sector would be an advantage, including:
- Review of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs);
- Layout of mechanical equipment and piping systems, as well as detailed design;
- Specification and selection of water and wastewater treatment equipment, piping and valves, including calculations and preparation of equipment data sheets;
- Design and installation of mechanical equipment in hazardous areas;
- Participation in Safety in Design processes and HAZOP/CHAZOP workshops.
- Focused on integrating safety and environmental considerations into the design process.
- Strong communication skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary design teams.
- Effective implementation of design change management processes.
- Experience and knowledge of Australian Standards.
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
- Results-oriented, with a strong focus on quality and systems.
Specific Skills:
- Demonstrates an excellent grasp of engineering and design principles.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge and understanding to design functionality.
- Capable of developing final designs from calculation notes.
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
- Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks, and to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Adaptable and able to react to project adjustments, design changes and alterations promptly and efficiently.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Creative approach for generating new ideas.

- Demonstrated commercial acumen.
- Previous experience with computerised design and analytical tools.
- Familiarity with productivity and management software (MS Office, EDMS, web-based project communications, etc.)
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.

SUEZ is in the process of refreshing it strategy both globally and locally, and is now looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical design experitise, advice and technical inputs. The position will lead the Mechanical discipline in the feasibility studies, options reports, basic and detailed design projects, and provide site engineering support during construction, and commissioning assistance. The position will be responsible for co-ordinating with other engineering disciplines, managing engineers, design-drafters and external resources and sub-consultants as required by project and/or organisational needs.
