Basmati Grocery Mart and Lottery House in East Victoria Park is seeking an experienced, qualified Butcher to join our team on a Permanent Full-Time basis (38 hours per week). You will run our in-store butchery counter, preparing fresh, quality meat to customer requirements while keeping to strict food safety standards.

Task & responsibilities

• Getting meat ready for sale by deboning, trimming fat, and cutting, mincing, and grinding meat to the desired shape and size for display or customer orders
• Preparing curry cuts and other cuts of lamb, goat, beef and chicken to suit customer preferences
• Marinating, seasoning, and preparing special cuts and value-added products
• Using machines to grind, mix, mince, and tenderise meat
• Ensuring all meat is handled and stored safely and in accordance with food safety and workplace health and safety regulations
• Receiving, inspecting, and storing meat upon delivery, ensuring quality and freshness
• Serving customers at the butchery counter, giving product and cooking advice, and taking special orders
• Working with the team to maintain adequate inventory levels and manage meat supplies efficiently
• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of work areas, display cabinets, cool rooms and equipment

Qualification & experience

• Proven experience in similar settings
• Minimum of 1 year of work experience in the occupation or related field
• Relevant trade qualification preferred but not essential for strong hands-on experience
• Excellent English skills
• Team management skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Familiar with industry best practices
• Proficiency in all aspects of food safety
• Positive communication skills, energy and attitude
