CQ Sawmilling Pty Ltd, established on 1st March 2022, has taken over the family business of S.T. Olive &
Sons. With a legacy of approximately 50 years in Dingo, S.T. Olive & Sons have specialized in supplying timber for both underground and open-cut mining industries and structural hardwood to the wholesale and retail sector. The sawmill has a history of providing “Link n Lock” roofing timber props and other specialized mining timbers to mines in Central Queensland—a service that CQ Sawmilling Pty Ltd intends to continue offering.
We recognise the importance of environmental commitments and will adhere to all relevant environmental laws. We strive to minimise the business's impact on the environment and will take all necessary measures to ensure compliance with environmental authority conditions. Our goal is to generate very little waste at the mills, and any waste produced will be treated appropriately before disposal. Most timber by-products, such as sawdust, woodchips, firewood, and side flitches, are sold to garden suppliers or the general public.
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Quality Assurance Officer to join and bring their expertise to our dedicated professional team in Dingo QLD.
The Role
As a QA Officer, you are responsible for ensuring that all products and services consistently meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements. This involves conducting audits, performing tests, and driving process improvements. You will oversee production activities, maintain and manage documentation, investigate non-conformities, and implement corrective actions to uphold compliance with industry standards
Your Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct routine audits, inspections, and compliance checks on production lines and raw materials to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards
Ensure compliance with industry standards by confirming that the mill’s Visual Stress Grading practices are applied in accordance with the Australian Standard AS 2082 for forest hardwood
Responsible for verifying timber specifications prior to treatment
Ensure that wood preservative treatment solution meets concentration level and retention period as in Australian Standard AS1604 during the production process
Create quality measurements to track improvement in products
Maintain, review, and update quality documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, and, in some cases, product specifications
Investigate product quality issues, identify root causes, and prepare reports on non-conforming materials or processes
Manage dispatch requirements and ensure products meet customer expectations and demand
Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance product quality and operational efficiency
Work closely with the development team to improve existing products
Ensure testing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and used according to protocols
Conduct audits of vendors and suppliers to ensure supplied materials meet company standards
Document quality assurance activities and create audit reports.
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
Previous work experience in quality assurance or a similar field
Working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of quality assurance
Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory standards
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent data collection and analysis skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with high attention to detail
