Civil Engineering Technician

As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will provide technical and site support across R Brothers Concreting’s residential, commercial and industrial construction projects. The role involves interpreting construction drawings and specifications, undertaking site measurements and inspections, preparing technical documentation, calculating construction quantities and supporting quality checks across excavation, formwork, reinforcement, foundations and concrete works. You will work closely with the Project Manager, supervisors, contractors, builders and suppliers to support the efficient delivery of construction projects.

Task & responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications and other project documentation relevant to concrete and civil construction works.
• Undertake site inspections and collect site measurements, dimensions, levels and other construction information.
• Assist with checking site conditions and construction set-outs against project drawings and requirements.
• Prepare technical sketches, notes, schedules, tabulations and other construction-related documentation.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and calculations for concrete, reinforcement, formwork, earthworks and associated construction materials.
• Assist with determining material quantities and requirements for construction activities.
• Provide technical support during excavation, site preparation, reinforcement, formwork and concrete slab construction.
• Assist supervisors and project personnel with construction sequencing and identification of routine technical issues.
• Inspect construction works and record site observations, measurements, progress and technical issues.
• Monitor construction activities against project drawings, specifications and project requirements and identify discrepancies requiring attention.
• Assist with quality control checks relating to construction dimensions, reinforcement, formwork and concrete works.
• Liaise with builders, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders regarding technical and construction requirements.
• Maintain accurate site records, technical documentation and project information.
• Assist in ensuring works are undertaken in accordance with relevant specifications, standards and workplace health and safety requirements.

Qualification & experience

• A Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Construction or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in civil construction, concrete construction or a related technical role.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans and specifications.
• Experience with site measurements, construction calculations and quantity take-offs.
• Understanding of reinforced concrete, formwork, foundations, excavation, earthworks and retaining structures.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate technical and site records.
• Ability to work effectively in both construction-site and office environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
