TEX WORLD PTY LTD trading as M.Y. Roasting Cafe is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join its team on a full-time basis in Yeronga, Queensland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, cooking, portioning and presenting a diverse range of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes in accordance with established recipes and café standards.

The role requires a strong understanding of commercial cooking techniques, food quality, safe food storage, dietary requirements and kitchen hygiene, together with the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.

Task & responsibilities

• Examine food and ingredients before preparation to ensure freshness, quality and suitability for use.
• Prepare, season and cook a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Regulate and monitor the temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, stovetops and other cooking equipment.
• Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, portioning, marinating and undertaking other required food preparation.
• Season food during preparation and cooking to achieve consistent taste and quality.
• Portion and plate meals and add sauces, garnishes and accompaniments in accordance with presentation standards.
• Check cooked meals for quality, temperature, portion size and presentation before service.
• Store food and ingredients appropriately in temperature-controlled facilities and follow correct stock rotation procedures.
• Prepare meals to meet special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options.
• Assist with menu planning, estimating food requirements and preparation for daily service.
• Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, portioning and storage practices.
• Maintain clean and hygienic food preparation, cooking and storage areas and comply with food safety and WHS requirements.
• Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient and timely meal service.
• Assist with training and providing guidance to junior kitchen staff where required.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery with appropriate on-the-job training, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• At least one year of elevant experience working as a Cook in a café, restaurant or similar commercial kitchen.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and cooking breakfast, brunch and/or lunch dishes.
• Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, portioning, presentation and safe food storage.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and special dietary requirements.
• Ability to operate commercial cooking equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.
• Good communication and teamwork skills with a commitment to consistent food quality.

M.Y. Roasting Cafe is a full-service dine-in café located in Yeronga, Queensland. Operating seven days a week, the café specialises in quality specialty coffee and freshly prepared breakfast, brunch and lunch meals made onsite from raw ingredients.
