Title: Chief Monk
The monk appointed to this position is responsible for the following:
* Abide by and uphold the code of conduct established by the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic Order.
* Practise and teach the teachings of the Buddha and ensure that the Theravada Buddhist monastic code is observed within the Monastery.
* Reside at the Monastery and provide overall spiritual, religious and monastic leadership.
* Plan, organise and lead daily, weekly and monthly religious activities, including Dhamma sermons, meditation programs, retreats and Buddhist observances.
* Prepare activity and duty schedules, supervise Resident Monks, assign their responsibilities and provide them with spiritual guidance.
* Provide spiritual advice and pastoral care to devotees, including counselling families, supporting the sick and bereaved, and offering blessings to couples and expectant mothers.
* Conduct blessings and other special religious ceremonies in accordance with Buddhist traditions.
* Maintain the discipline of the Monastery and ensure that its religious activities are conducted respectfully and consistently with the Monastic Order’s requirements.
* Coordinate the Monastery’s administrative and community activities with its management committee.
* Represent the Monastery in its dealings with the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic Order, government agencies, other religious institutions and community organisations.
