A&D Skopp is a family operated sugar cane business located in the Northern Gold Coast area of Queensland. We are offering three employees the opportunity to join our team and work with Australia’s only sugar cane business specialising in the production of fresh sugar cane sticks for the juicing market. We are looking for reliable, hardworking and physically fit farm workers who are keen to learn, develop their skills and become part of our team. The position involves a combination of field work, wash room duties and packing shed work associated with the cutting, cleaning and preparation of fresh sugar cane for the juicing market. Duties and Responsibilities Field Work: - Cutting and handling sugar cane by hand using a cane knife - Working towards a production target of approximately 400 kg per hour while maintaining quality and safe work practices. - Cutting cane correctly at the last noggel. - Removing the sharp section of bent cane. - Inspecting cane and removing damaged, rotten or unsuitable sticks. - Keeping cane clean and minimising dirt and contamination. - Laying cane into neat, uniform piles ready for collection by the tractor's mechanical cane grab. - Ensuring piles are positioned correctly so cane can be collected efficiently without excessive dirt or cane being left behind. Wash Room: - Washing and cleaning cane ready for packing. - Inspecting cane for dirt, damage, rot and other quality issues. - Removing unsuitable product. - Checking cane ends and ensuring product meets quality standards. - Operating washing and cleaning equipment safely. - Keeping the wash room and equipment clean and organised. Packing Shed: - Sorting and grading cane before packing. - Removing damaged or unsuitable product. - Checking cane quality and ends. - Packing cane neatly and consistently. - Completing weight checks, generally around 10.20–10.50 kg per pack. - Securing packs correctly with strapping. - Checking finished product before dispatch. - Maintaining a clean and organised packing area. Working Conditions: - This is physically demanding agricultural work. - Work involves standing, bending, lifting, repetitive movements and manual handling. - Field work is performed outdoors and workers may be exposed to heat, humidity, rain and changing weather conditions. - Workers must be able to maintain a consistent working pace throughout the day. - Work may involve moving between the field, wash room and packing shed depending on operational requirements. - Safety, product quality and cleanliness are expected at all times. Employment Conditions: - Employment Type: Casual Basis under the terms and conditions of the Horticultural award - Start Date: Immediate ( September 2026) - Expected Duration: Minimum 6 months, with potential for ongoing work depending on seasonal requirements and operational needs. - Hours: Minimum 30+ hours per week, depending on weather, seasonal requirements and operational demands. - The work is usually performed between the hours of 0600 - 1500, Monday to Friday and may also be required to work shiftwork and public holidays - Overtime opportunities may be available and will be paid accordingly under the relevant Fair Work instrument (Horticultural Award) - Hourly Rate: $32.18 per hour plus Super Skills & Requirements: - Physically fit and capable of performing manual farm work. - Reliable and punctual. - Strong work ethic and willingness to work hard. - Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. - Able to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the working day. - Good attention to detail and product quality. - Able to follow instructions and workplace procedures. - Able to work independently and as part of a team. - Previous farm or cane-cutting experience is an advantage but not essential where the applicant demonstrates the required ability and work ethic.
