Motor Mechanic

ACT Autocare is seeking an experienced and reliable Motor Mechanic to join our Fyshwick team. The successful applicant will be confident in diagnosing, repairing and servicing a wide variety of vehicles, ensuring they remain safe and roadworthy. The role covers engines, transmissions, brakes and other key vehicle systems, using a combination of hand tools and computerized diagnostic equipment to pinpoint and resolve faults.

Task & responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults in engines and other vehicle systems, including electrical issues
• Strip down engines, transmissions, steering systems and other components to assess damage or wear
• Repair or replace defective or worn parts, referring to service manuals as needed
• Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication and engine tune-ups, to keep vehicles running efficiently and within emission standards
• Reassemble engines and components once repairs are complete
• Test and fine-tune repaired systems to ensure they function correctly
• Use computerised diagnostic tools to identify and assess vehicle faults
• Inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates, or provide a list of repairs required
• Attend emergency breakdown calls when required

Qualification & experience

• A relevant qualification, such as Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent), is preferred
• Proven experience as a motor mechanic or in a comparable role
• Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostic techniques and repair procedures
• Competent use of mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Good communication skills for dealing with customers
• A current driver's licence may be required
