Football Australia is the national governing body for football in Australia, overseeing all national teams, the Australia Cup, National Premier Leagues and the broader football ecosystem across community, grassroots and elite football.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Football Australia is seeking an exceptional and passionate leader to join our Football Department as our Head of Women's Football.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of women's football in Australia by providing strategic leadership, technical expertise and system-wide alignment across participation, pathways and performance environments.
Reporting to the Executive Director Football, you will work collaboratively with Member Federations, clubs, leagues, coaches, national teams and key stakeholders to create sustainable growth and long-term success for women and girls in football.
As Football Australia's senior technical authority for women's football, you will lead the design and implementation of programs, policies, processes, systems and operating frameworks that strengthen engagement, participation, retention, progression and performance outcomes across the women's football ecosystem.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & System Leadership
• Lead the development and implementation of Football Australia's women's football strategy.
• Design and deliver programs, policies and initiatives that increase engagement, participation, retention and progression opportunities for women and girls.
• Develop and embed systems, procedures, frameworks and governance models that support consistent delivery across participation, pathways and performance environments.
• Translate strategic priorities into measurable implementation plans and outcomes.
• Drive alignment across Member Federations, clubs, leagues and national team programs to create a cohesive women's football system.
Technical Leadership
• Act as Football Australia's senior technical authority for women's football.
• Provide leadership across player development, talent identification and pathway design.
• Ensure strong alignment between grassroots participation, talent pathways and Women's National Team programs.
• Support capability development across the football ecosystem through mentoring, education and knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build trusted relationships with Member Federations, clubs, leagues, coaches, government agencies and key partners.
• Represent Football Australia within domestic and international football forums, including engagement with FIFA, AFC and other key stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively across Football Australia to ensure successful implementation of women's football initiatives.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor participation trends, pathway effectiveness and performance outcomes across women's football.
• Leverage research, data and insights to support evidence-based decision making.
• Establish monitoring, reporting and review mechanisms to drive continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen system performance and improve development outcomes for women and girls.
ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced and influential leader with a strong understanding of player development, talent identification and the women's football landscape.
You will bring:
Essential
• Demonstrated experience leading or influencing football, sporting or talent development systems.
• Deep understanding of player development and talent pathways from participation through to elite performance.
• Experience designing and implementing programs, policies, frameworks and initiatives that drive participation and performance outcomes.
• Strong strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and change management capability.
• Proven ability to collaborate and influence across complex sporting environments.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent senior leadership experience within football or high-performance sport.
Highly Regarded
• Experience working within women's football environments.
• Exposure to elite football, professional sport or national team environments.
• Coaching, technical or high-performance accreditations.
• Knowledge of leading international practice in women's football and talent development.
