The Mechanical Engineering Technician will provide technical support in the planning, assembly, installation, inspection and quality assurance of engineered aluminium, stainless steel and metal balustrade systems for commercial and high-rise construction projects.
Working closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, Engineers and installation teams, the Mechanical Engineering Technician is responsible for interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, undertaking dimensional verification, coordinating the assembly and installation of balustrade components, conducting inspections and technical checks, identifying defects or discrepancies, and ensuring completed installations comply with engineering specifications, Australian Standards and project requirements.
The role is technical in nature and supports the successful delivery of complex façade and balustrade installations through quality control, testing, measurement, installation verification and engineering support activities.
Benefits
Salary: $80,000 to $85,000 plus Super depending on experience
Task & responsibilities
Engineering and Technical Support
• Interpret and review engineering drawings, shop drawings, specifications and installation details relating to balustrade systems and associated structural components.
• Assist project engineers and site management personnel with technical aspects of balustrade installation projects.
• Review dimensions, tolerances, fixing locations and connection details prior to installation.
• Verify that fabricated components conform to approved drawings and project specifications.
• Identify technical discrepancies, design conflicts or installation issues and provide recommendations for rectification.
Assembly and Installation Coordination
• Coordinate and support the assembly and installation of engineered balustrade systems, handrails, posts, brackets, fixings and associated components.
• Determine appropriate installation methods, tools, equipment and material requirements.
• Undertake site measurements and dimensional verification activities.
• Confirm alignment, levels, spacing, clearances and fixing arrangements during installation.
• Monitor installation activities to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and project specifications.
Inspection, Testing and Quality Assurance
• Conduct inspections of fabricated and installed components to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
• Perform dimensional checks, alignment verification and quality inspections.
• Record measurements, test results and inspection findings.
• Identify defects, non-conformances or installation issues and coordinate corrective actions.
• Assist in the testing and commissioning of installed balustrade systems where required.
• Ensure completed installations meet structural, safety and quality requirements.
Documentation and Compliance
• Maintain inspection records, technical reports, quality documentation and project-related data.
• Assist in preparing material estimates and installation schedules.
• Ensure work complies with project specifications, contractual requirements, workplace safety obligations and relevant Australian Standards.
• Liaise with engineers, clients, consultants and construction personnel regarding technical matters affecting installation works.
Qualification & experience
Qualification and Experience
• Must possess at least a relevant Diploma, Advanced Diploma qualification or higher OR at least 3 years of relevant experience if without formal qualifications
• Must demonstrate at least 12 months of relevant work experience
