Service Technician – Motor Mechanic

Atlantic Rentals hires, sells and services elevated work platforms (EWPs) to construction, infrastructure and maintenance customers from depots at Sydney NSW. A large part of the hire fleet is truck-mounted, and the business also runs its own utes for deliveries, service call-outs and staff travel.

The Service Technician keeps those vehicles safe, roadworthy and on hire. The role carries out trade-level servicing, diagnosis and repair of the light trucks that carry the truck-mounted EWPs and of the company's support vehicles, both in the workshop and at customer sites. Downtime on a hire truck is lost revenue and a missed customer job, so fast, accurate fault-finding is the core of the position.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620), or an equivalent or higher Australian automotive qualification
• At least 1 year of full-time experience as a qualified motor mechanic
• Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing engine, brake, steering, suspension and electrical faults

Desirable

• Roadside or mobile mechanic experience
• Experience on light trucks or commercial fleet vehicles
• Exposure to hydraulics, PTOs or plant equipment

Skills and attributes

• Confident with diagnostic scan tools, multimeters and workshop equipment
• Reads workshop manuals, wiring diagrams and service schedules
• Works safely and follows lock-out, isolation and working-at-height procedures
• Works alone on customer sites and makes sound repair-or-recover decisions
• Keeps clear, accurate job cards and service records
• Communicates clearly with customers, drivers and the hire desk

Pay and conditions

• Base salary $80,000–90,000 a year plus superannuation
• Overtime and call-out allowance for after-hours breakdowns
• Company vehicle and tools for call-outs
• Paid training and licensing as listed above
• PPE and uniforms supplied
