The Football Analyst reports to the NRL Head Coach and NRL Video Performance Analyst and is principally responsible for supporting the NRL Video Performance Analyst and has key relationships with the following:

  • NRL Head coach
  • NRL Video Performance Analyst
  • NRL assistant coaches
  • IT support network
  • General Manager of Football
  • Analysis interns
  • NRL playing group

Task & responsibilities

The Football Analyst is required to perform the following duties:

Responsible for working directly with the NRL Head Coach and coaching staff, in:

  • Ensuring all analytical equipment is maintained and readily available for training sessions.
  • Maintaining infrastructure and IT solutions for the application of performance analysis and coaching.
  • Attending and actively participating in coaching and training sessions, including filming sessions to ensure coaches are able to conduct analysis during and post-session, and ensuring footage is coded, organised and made available on servers in a timely manner.
  • Opposition preview analysis (statistical analysis focus), including generation of reports and statistical feedback on opposing teams and individual players.
  • Constructing strategic data models for team and individual performance appraisal.
  • Assisting with generating presentations and graphic design of the same, and producing video telestration. 
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of performance analysis solutions for match day, including providing real-time analytical information and tactical instruction to coaches and players during matches.
  • Sending relevant data and video to players and coaches via distribution platforms.
  • Managing IT software and systems relevant to coaching and analysis.
  • Coordinating with, and managing data and resources from, key stakeholders pertaining to coaching and analysis.
  • Presenting individual and team performance analysis directly to players, and providing players with technical, tactical and positional instruction arising from that analysis.
  • Working directly with individual players to identify performance deficiencies and develop tailored improvement strategies.
  • Assisting coaches in designing training drills and interventions based on match and training analysis.
  • Contributing substantively to the development of game plans, opposition strategy and team play patterns.
  • Conducting player review sessions using video footage, statistics and telestration.
  • Participating in post-match review sessions with players and coaches, and communicating corrective strategies arising from those reviews.
  • Taking responsibility for translating raw data and footage into practical coaching recommendations, rather than solely producing and distributing data.

 

 


Qualification & experience

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years in a high-performance team setting.

Desirable

  • Experience as a football/data analyst in a professional or semi-professional rugby league club.
  • Ability to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the basic principles and rules of rugby league.

Sound knowledge of performance analysis systems and practices.
