HSE & Capability Lead

Ipswich | $110,000 - $120,000 + Super | Permanent

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced HSE & Capability Lead to join a global specialist in automated distribution and logistics systems.

Based at a large-scale automated distribution facility in Ipswich, this is a hands-on, site-based role focused on safety leadership, compliance, training and capability development across a highly technical operation.

The Role

You will take ownership of the site's WHS management system while working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Team Leaders, contractors and other key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and improving the site's WHS management system
  • Reviewing risk assessments, SWMS and safety controls
  • Providing safety leadership across high-risk work including isolation, permit to work, working at heights and automated machinery
  • Conducting regular floor walks, inspections, audits and workplace risk assessments
  • Developing safety procedures, work instructions and toolbox talks
  • Delivering safety training and supporting competency sign-offs
  • Leading incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Managing injury, Return to Work and WorkCover processes
  • Monitoring safety KPIs including TRIFR and near-miss trends
  • Managing corrective actions and contractor safety documentation
  • Maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting ISO 45001 compliance
  • Supporting employee capability, upskilling and development

About You

You will be an experienced HSE/WHS professional with a background in manufacturing, FMCG, automated logistics or a similar operational environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Cert IV in WHS/HSE or equivalent
  • Experience with risk assessments, safety systems and high-risk work
  • Return to Work and injury management experience
  • ICAM or similar incident investigation experience
  • Experience delivering safety training and building capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and hold teams accountable
  • A practical, hands-on approach to workplace safety

TAE, Return to Work, Confined Spaces and Working at Heights qualifications are desirable, but some can be obtained after commencement.
