Position Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, coordination and delivery of recycling and resource recovery facility projects from concept development through to installation, commissioning and operational handover.
The role applies engineering technology principles to develop practical processing solutions, prepare engineering documentation, coordinate manufacturing and installation activities, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical specifications and client requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design, planning and delivery of recycling and resource recovery facility projects from concept development through to commissioning.
Develop plant layouts, equipment arrangements, fabrication drawings and engineering documentation using SolidWorks, Trimble and related CAD software.
Prepare technical specifications, engineering calculations, project reports and supporting documentation for project delivery and compliance.
Analyse operational requirements and implement practical engineering solutions to improve plant performance, productivity and efficiency.
Support process development initiatives, plant upgrades and continuous improvement projects across recycling and resource recovery operations.
Coordinate suppliers, fabricators, contractors and site personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed timelines.
Develop, monitor and update project schedules, resource allocations and delivery programs to achieve project objectives.
Manage procurement activities, including sourcing materials, equipment and fabrication services while monitoring lead times and supplier performance.
Liaise with clients, suppliers and stakeholders to address technical requirements, manufacturing schedules and installation activities.
Monitor project progress, prepare status reports and assist with project cost control, budgeting and risk management activities.
Provide engineering support to manufacturing and fabrication teams by reviewing drawings, technical requirements and production processes.
Oversee equipment installation, testing and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and operational requirements.
Investigate and resolve technical issues arising during manufacturing, installation, commissioning and operational startup phases.
Conduct performance verification, operational testing and project handover activities to ensure systems achieve required performance standards.
Prepare risk assessments, quality assurance documentation and compliance records while ensuring adherence to Australian Standards, workplace health and safety requirements and environmental regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Minimum two (2) years of relevant post-qualification experience
Key Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of engineering technology principles, industrial plant systems and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, Trimble and engineering drafting software.
Ability to prepare and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication documentation and technical specifications.
Sound project management, planning and coordination skills.
Experience managing procurement and supplier relationships.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices within industrial environments.
