About the Role
We are seeking two (2) experienced Motor Mechanics (General) to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidates will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, testing and repairing engines and mechanical components of light motor vehicles, including transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in vehicle engines, systems and components.
- Diagnose vehicle faults using computerised diagnostic equipment and appropriate testing tools.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other mechanical components for inspection and repair.
- Inspect mechanical components to identify worn, damaged or defective parts.
- Repair or replace worn and defective parts and reassemble mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and servicing, including oil changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups and other routine maintenance.
- Service and maintain vehicles to achieve efficient performance and ensure compliance with applicable pollution and safety requirements.
- Reassemble engines, transmissions and other mechanical components following repairs.
- Test and adjust repaired mechanical parts and systems to ensure correct operation and performance.
- Inspect and maintain braking, steering and suspension systems and undertake necessary repairs or replacement of components.
- Carry out vehicle inspections and identify work required to ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, diagnostics, repairs and parts replaced.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety procedures and workshop standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or a relevant automotive trade qualification, with appropriate practical training; or AQF Certificate IV in a relevant field.
- At least 2 years of relevant practical experience in motor vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs.
- Strong knowledge of petrol engines and light vehicle mechanical systems, including transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
- Experience using computerised vehicle diagnostic equipment, workshop tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to dismantle, repair, replace and reassemble vehicle mechanical components.
- Sound understanding of scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Ability to read and follow technical specifications, manufacturer instructions and service manuals.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a workshop team.
- A valid driver's licence and ability to drive manual vehicles would be highly regarded.
