Reporting to: Service Manager / Operations Manager

About the role

You will install, commission, service, maintain and repair commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The role involves scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and breakdown response at client sites.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission, and set to work commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, and specifications.
• Braze, pressure test, evacuate, and charge refrigeration systems in line with manufacturer and industry standards.
• Liaise with project teams to ensure installations are completed on time and to specification.
• Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on refrigeration, cool room, and air conditioning systems.
• Perform routine inspections, gas checks, and system performance testing.
• Maintain accurate service records and complete job sheets and compliance documentation.
• Advise clients on system performance, upgrades, and energy-efficiency opportunities.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and control faults on refrigeration and HVAC systems.
• Respond to breakdown and emergency callouts in a timely and professional manner.
• Source and replace faulty components, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
• Escalate complex faults to senior technicians or engineering support as required.
• Complete job cards, service reports, and safe work method statements accurately and on time.
• Record refrigerant usage and complete compliance paperwork in line with licensing requirements.
• Report recurring faults, equipment risks, or opportunities for improvement to management.
• Where required, communicate clearly regarding work completed, findings, and recommendations.

Qualifications/Work Experience 

• Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, or a an equivalent Australian or an overseas trade qualification + 2 years’ work experience.  At least three years’ relevant work experience may in some instances be acceptable in lieu of formal.
• The ability to obtain any required licence or A current recognised Refrigeration Council Refrigerant Handling Licence - 

Desirable but not mandatory experience and qualifications

• Experience with cool rooms, packaged units, split systems and VRV/VRF systems.
• Experience with service contracts and breakdown response.
• Working at Heights and Confined Spaces qualifications relevant to the work.
• Experience using Simpro, AroFlo or comparable job management software.
