We are looking for a motivated Technical Sales Representative to build and grow our relationships with tile retailers and showrooms across the Sydney metropolitan area and regional NSW, advising them on our range of floor and wall tiles and natural stone products and helping them succeed with Stoneworld.
About us
Stoneworld is one of Australia's leading tile and surfaces suppliers, with a wealth of experience, operating nationwide. With 40 years of experience, Stoneworld supplies tile retailers across Australia with a great range of quality tiles, natural stone mosaics and surfaces imported from around the world.
Stoneworld has offices and warehouse operations in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, with distribution channels across the rest of Australia. This position is based in Sydney.
What you will be doing
- Manage an allocated portfolio of tile retailers: Take responsibility for a group of existing and prospective tile shops and showrooms in Sydney and regional NSW, building strong, long-term relationships and growing Stoneworld's share of their business over competing suppliers.
- Identify and develop prospective clients: Research and compile lists of prospective tile retailers in your territory using directories, industry sources and our CRM, and plan call cycles to convert them into active accounts.
- Assess customer needs and recommend products: Understand each retailer's market, customer base and range gaps, then recommend and explain suitable products, including format, finish, material type, slip resistance, water absorption, suitability for wet areas, and external or commercial applications.
- Provide technical product advice: Act as the technical point of contact for retailers and their sales staff, answering enquiries on specifications, performance characteristics, installation considerations (such as adhesives, grout and sealing of natural stone), care and maintenance, coverage calculations and relevant Australian Standards.
- Train retailer staff: Help showroom teams present and sell our products confidently by sharing product knowledge and selling points.
- Quote, negotiate and close sales: Prepare quotes, negotiate pricing and credit terms within company guidelines, complete contracts and record orders accurately in our systems.
- Coordinate supply and delivery: Liaise with our warehouse, logistics and purchasing teams on stock availability and delivery, including imported products with long lead times.
- Monitor the market: Keep up to date with our products, competitors' ranges and pricing, design trends and market conditions, and report customer feedback and competitor activity to sales management.
- Collaborate with the team: Work closely with the marketing, purchasing, customer service and warehouse teams.
Your skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field relevant to the products we sell (such as building and construction, architecture, interior design, materials or a related discipline) or in marketing or business.
- Experience in technical B2B sales: At least 1 year's experience selling technical products to business customers such as retailers, distributors or merchants, ideally in tiles, stone, building materials or surfaces.
- Product and technical knowledge: Strong understanding of tile and stone products and their applications, with the ability to explain technical specifications and performance requirements. Knowledge of Australian Standards relevant to tile selection and installation is highly regarded.
- Account management and negotiation skills: Experience managing a portfolio of business accounts, preparing quotes, negotiating pricing and credit terms, and achieving sales targets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Able to explain technical information clearly and report accurately to management.
- Self-management and organisation: Able to manage your own territory, plan your travel and prioritise multiple accounts and follow-ups.
- Computer skills: Basic understanding of CRM and ERP softwares, as well as Microsoft Office sofwares.
- Licence and travel: Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to drive a company vehicle across Sydney and regional NSW.
Why work for us
- Join a leading supplier in Australia's tile and surfaces industry: Be part of a reputable organisation with 40 years of experience, working with a diverse and dynamic team in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop your technical sales expertise: Build deep product knowledge across a broad range of imported tiles and natural stone, and develop lasting relationships with customers across the industry.
- Competitive package: $80,000 per annum plus super, with a company vehicle provided plus phone and laptop, and travel/accommodation costs covered for regional trips.
- Collaborative and team-oriented work environment: A culture of collaboration, teamwork and mutual respect.
- Opportunity for career growth and development: Access to training, product knowledge sessions and mentoring to advance your career within the organisation.
