Wall and Floor Tiler

The Trustee for SSA BALAJI TRUST

The Wall and Floor Tiler will be responsible to prepare surfaces and install wall and floor tiles on residential building projects in the Adelaide region in South Australia. The role covers setting out, cutting, fixing, grouting and finishing tiled areas to the required standard, and

working safely with other trades on site. He will directly report to Project Manager or the Director. The main location of reporting will be Findon, South Australia. The employment will be a full-time employment and the tiler will be required to work for 38 hours per week. Salary paid would be in the range of $75,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on experience and skills.

Task & responsibilities

– Review residential drawings and site measurements, mark wall and floor areas, and plan the tile layout before work starts.

– Make good existing wall and floor substrates by taking off failed finishes where needed, filling cracks and hollows, and leaving a clean, even surface ready for tiling.

– Bed tiles onto prepared walls and floors with the correct adhesive, and fix them so joints, falls and finished levels match the job.

– Cut tiles on site so they finish neatly at corners, reveals, doorways and around pipes, wastes and fittings.

– Keep courses straight and joints consistent while tiles are being fixed, and adjust any piece that is out of line before the adhesive sets.

– Fill joints, wipe off surplus material and finish the surface so the tiling is clean and ready for use.

– Prepare wet-area substrates and install or work to the waterproofing system before tiles are fixed in bathrooms and other wet areas.

– Lay screeds or cement-based floor finishes where a tiled or similar hard floor build-up is required.

– Set out feature and border tiles so patterned areas line up with the main field of tiling

Qualification & experience

Minimum qualification of Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling, or an equivalent Australian qualification. 

Construction related white card is desirable.
