Regional Liaison Officer - Mareeba, QLD | Casual
MADEC AustraliaListed 30 Sep 2026
Closes 29 Oct 2026
We're looking for a Casual Liaison Officer to provide practical and wellbeing support to workers living and working in Mareeba through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme (PALMS).
This is a unique community-based role for someone who enjoys helping people, solving problems and being the reliable local person others know they can turn to.
From welcoming workers when they arrive and helping them settle into the community, to appointments, accommodation, transport and wellbeing check-ins, you'll provide support through the everyday moments – and occasionally when something unexpected happens.
Because you'll also provide emergency and time-sensitive support, we're looking for someone who lives within approximately 20 minutes of Mareeba and can respond locally when required.
What Does the Role Look Like?
You'll:
- Build genuine, trusted relationships with PALMS workers
- Provide pastoral, practical and wellbeing support
- Assist with medical appointments, transport and accommodation matters
- Help workers navigate workplace or personal concerns
- Connect workers with community activities and services
- Assist with arrivals, inductions and departures
- Conduct regular check-ins and accommodation inspections
- Advocate for workers and escalate concerns when additional support is needed
- Liaise with host employers and the broader MADEC team
- Support WHS and worker safety requirements
- Respond to occasional after-hours or emergency worker needs
Could This Suit You?
You don't necessarily need a community services qualification. We're much more interested in finding someone who is reliable, resourceful, culturally aware and genuinely good with people.
You'll bring:
- Strong local knowledge of Mareeba and the surrounding community
- Experience working with culturally diverse people – highly regarded
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Empathy, patience and sound judgement
- Confidence working independently and solving practical problems
- Good organisation and time management
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email
- A willingness to help others
A Few Things You Need to Know
This is genuinely a casual role, with hours varying depending on worker and operational needs. Some availability outside normal business hours will be required for arrivals, emergencies and time-sensitive worker support.
Due to the emergency response component, candidates must live within approximately 20 minutes of Mareeba.
You'll also need:
- A current driver's licence
- National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
Why MADEC?
You'll get flexibility and autonomy while doing work that has genuine human impact.
You'll build relationships with people from different cultures, become part of their local support network and help make their experience of living and working in Australia a positive one.
If you're Mareeba-local, dependable and the kind of person people naturally turn to when they need a hand, we'd love to hear from you.
