Regional Liaison Officer - Innisfail, QLD | Casual

MADEC Australia
Innisfail QLD 4860Casual

Listed 30 Sep 2026

Closes 30 Oct 2026

Looking for flexible, meaningful work where you can genuinely make a difference in someone's experience of living and working in Australia?

We're looking for a Casual Liaison Officer based locally in Innisfail to support workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme (PALMS).

You'll be a trusted local point of contact for workers from Pacific Island nations – helping them feel safe, supported and connected while they're away from home.

Importantly, this role provides emergency and time-sensitive support when required. For this reason, we're looking for someone who lives within approximately 20 minutes of Innisfail and can respond locally when needed.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, people-first role where no two days look quite the same.

One day you may be helping a worker attend a medical appointment, another you're conducting an accommodation check, welcoming new arrivals, helping resolve a practical issue or simply checking in to make sure everyone is doing okay.

It's a casual position, so hours will vary according to worker and operational needs. It also requires some flexibility outside standard business hours for worker arrivals, emergencies and other time-sensitive support.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building trusted relationships with PALMS workers
  • Providing practical, pastoral and wellbeing support
  • Assisting with medical appointments, accommodation and transport
  • Supporting workplace matters and worker advocacy
  • Helping workers connect with their local community
  • Assisting with worker arrivals, inductions and departures
  • Conducting regular worker check-ins and accommodation inspections
  • Responding to occasional after-hours or emergency support needs
  • Liaising with MADEC, host employers and community services
  • Supporting worker health, safety and wellbeing

About You

We're looking for someone who is approachable, dependable and genuinely enjoys helping people.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Strong knowledge of Innisfail and the local community
  • Empathy, patience and the ability to build trust
  • Excellent communication and practical problem-solving skills
  • Confidence working independently and using initiative
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage changing priorities
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email

Experience in community services, healthcare, disability or aged care, education, employment services, multicultural support or another people-focused environment would be highly regarded.

The Important Bits

  • You must live within approximately 20 minutes of Innisfail due to emergency response requirements
  • This is a casual position, with hours varying according to operational needs
  • Availability outside standard business hours will occasionally be required
  • A current driver's licence is essential
  • National Police Check required (or willingness to obtain)

Why Join MADEC?

You'll have the opportunity to do flexible work that also has genuine purpose – building relationships, supporting people and becoming a trusted part of their experience living and working in Australia.

If you're local to Innisfail, community-minded and looking for casual work where your contribution genuinely matters, we'd love to hear from you.
